SONSI is excited to announce the date and location of our 2015 Exhibit: On weekends from September 5 to November 1, we’ll be showcasing our members’ works in the Dundas Valley Conservation Area‘s gem of a trail centre – the Giant’s Rib Discovery Centre.

The “Giant’s Rib” is another name for the Niagara Escarpment, a World Biosphere Reserve and a unique and scenic landscape right here in Southern Ontario. The Niagara Escarpment is home to a diverse flora and fauna and has an interesting geological and cultural history. For the first time SONSI’s annual exhibit will have a theme: The Natural and Cultural History of Southern Ontario, Illustrated.

The Trail Centre has a food concession, interpretive displays, maps, and washrooms; it is the starting point for guided hikes and workshops. Many hikers visit the Centre before and/or after their hikes, so there is quite a bit of weekend traffic. Within the Trail Centre is the Giant’s Rib Discovery Centre, a place to view interpretive materials about the Niagara Escarpment as well as fossils. A redesign of this Centre is underway, which should be completed by mid-summer.

Please mark your calendars to visit our exhibit on a weekend in September or October 2015, and/or join us the Giant’s Rib Discovery Centre for a hike and reception –tentatively– on October 17 or 18. (Details will be posted at this website closer to the time of the exhibit).
