With the recent departure of the Toronto Zoo’s elephants, their enclosure became available for some other large animals to occupy. The lucky recipients were the zoo’s two remaining Masai giraffes, 26-year-old mom Twiga and her little daughter Mystari. The zoo contacted member Dino Pulerà to create illustrations of the nine subspecies of giraffe along with a couple of anatomical illustrations comparing the cervical anatomy of a giraffe with a human. All the illustrations are on display inside the giraffe house. Upon entering the vestibule of the new giraffe exhibit, visitors are greeted by a life-sized illustration of the skeletal cervical anatomy of a giraffe and human. Walking through the vestibule and into the main viewing area, the 7-foot illustrations of the parade of subspecies are mounted on a wall opposite the holding pen where the giraffe roam freely. Next time you visit the zoo, please check it out. Congratulations, Dino!
